The title “Daylight for Dreamers” first came to mind a long while ago. I had the phrase floating around in my head for a number of years. But I never had a place to put it. I wonder if others have the same predilection for conjuring up titles for books and stories that have, as of yet, no content? Just something about the name sticks in your head, and you know that there will be the perfect place for it somewhere down the road. But as I began posting these thoughts late last year, I seized upon this title. “Daylight for Dreamers” seemed to fir. I wanted this title to suggest something to all of us who are not the most practical – those who have been collectively accused of having our heads in the clouds. It is for those who bristle at factory-like production of the creative object, whether script, painting or novel, and aspire to something more organic, something with both form and substance off the well-worn path. I had hoped that these musings might inspire those like-minded artists out there, but they also seem to generate and sustain enthusiasm for my own work. It is hard to stimulate the brain day in and day out. Sometimes it feels as if the muse isn’t giving me much to work with. Some perspective on the creative endeavor provides a little lift every once in a while. But more than just encouragement, I want these postings to take a look at the creative process and see how it actually works, from the inside-out. It can be seen as a first-person account of how someone engages with the artistic pursuit, with both grace and awkwardness. Still, dream away. Let these pages offer up just a bit of clarity and focus to those dreams.
